Meet at the RSPB car park at 10.30am. We will spend the morning walking round the reserve looking for winter waders. In the afternoon we will visit the nearby Middlebeare Heath for possible raptors. Walking conditions can be muddy so come prepared.

30th Anniversary Celebration Evening - Crewkerne Local RSPB Group

30TH ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION EVENING - our annual Christmas social evening with a difference this year. We will toast the success of the Crewkerne Group, to mark the occasion of its 30th year. A chance to chat to fellow members and friends and enjoy our popular quizzes. We will be joined by Stoke-sub-Hamdon Band who will be playing seasonal music. Please bring a plate of food for the buffet. Soft drinks/tea & coffee will be provided.

Meet and park at Dewlands Farm at 10.30am at the bottom of Red Hill near Curry Rivel. We will go with a warden to the raised barn hide overlooking the reserve for, hopefully, good views of wildfowl and possibly birds of prey. In the afternoon we will make a short visit to Greylake reserve nearby. Walking in the morning maybe muddy but there are good boardwalks in the afternoon.

Indoor Meeting - "The Birds of Torbay"

INDOOR MEETING - 'THE BIRDS OF TORBAY' presented by Mike Langman, a wildlife artist, who works as a natural history illustrator for many book publishers and organisations. His bird illustrations can be seen on nearly every RSPB reserve. Mike has been a local birdwatcher in Torbay for 35 years. His 'patch' ranges from Hopes Nose to Brixham and encompasses the three towns of Torbay - Torquay, Paignton and Brixham.

Field Trip - Portland

Location: Portland. OS Map 194: Grid ref SY675 684.

Meet in the car park by the lighthouse on the Bill at 10.30am. Please note there is a charge. We will walk around the Bill looking for specialist species, such as purple sandpiper, as well as doing some sea watching before visiting some of the other sites on the island for species such as kittiwakes and peregrines.

Indoor Meeting - "In Darwins Footsteps"

We are pleased to welcome Mike Read, who over the years has become a regular and popular speaker with our group. Charles Darwin visited not only the Galapagos Islands but also mainland Ecuador in 1835. He must have been truly amazed by the wealth of wildlife he found - there are over 1500 species of birds. The first half of the talk shows some of the mainland's wonderful wildlife, while the second half will take us on a typical cruise around the Enchanted Isles.

This all day visit to a new venue for the group, is an internationally famous one for wildfowl and should prove very interesting. Blashford Lakes are two miles north of Ringwood on the A338, turn right (east) onto Ellingham Drove, the reserve entrance is after 500 yards with main car park to the left and Education Centre to the right.
