Bitterns at Potteric Carr and nearby
A report of 6 Bitterns at Potteric Carr last week: 3 on Piper Marsh, 2 on Decoy Marsh and 1 on Low Ellers Marsh. This is a record for this Yorkshire Wildlife Trust Reserve, and possibly for a single site in the country. Bitterns have been reported at Wintersett Reservoir, as well as other sightings at Micklethwaite Ings in West Yorkshire. Further afield in Lancashire 3 have been seen at Martin Mere, nr Ormskirk and 1 at Leighton Moss.
