Long-tailed tit perched on branch

Lakeside area 8/2/09

No noticable progress re planting around more of the edges, despite frequent e-mails. Apparently the site is being audited to decide on appropriate plants for use!! Meanwhile the birds will again be searching for nesting materials and suitable sites this spring.
It has fantastic potential as a wildlife area within the borders of Doncaster town. We'll keep trying!!
Currently the birdwatchers are round the lake searching for the reported black-throated diver, seen in the last few days.
On our January, Tuesday foray we recored 39 species on or around the lake.
There are still good numbers of redwings on the fields adjacent to the farm, together with mistle and song thrushes, flock of goldfinches, as well long-tailed, blue, great and coal tits flitting around.
It's well worth a walk around with your binoculars!!
