Potteric Carr Yorkshire Wildlife Trust ReserveThis is very close to Doncaster Town Centre and Lakeside. Leave the M18 at Junction 3 and take the A6182 towards Doncaster. Take the third exit (signposted) at the first roundabout. From town take the A6182 or alternatively take the A638 and turn right at the ASDA new traffic lights. The reserve has been open since 1968, largely run by volunteers. The area, which is dissected by both the London to Edinburgh mainline and branch railways, has recently been expanded and much development work has and still is being undertaken. It is an area of open water, marshland, reed beds, woodland and grassland. A number of walks are marked and extensive work has improved the pathways, to give wheelchair access to many areas. A new visitor centre has been opened recently. A large number of birds, invertebrates, especially butterflies and dragonflies and wild flowers can be found. Bitterns have lived on the Reserve for a number of years. The Trust organises pond dipping and mini-beast hunting in the school holidays.
