Sandall Beat Wood.Access to the reserve is easily reached from the A18 - Leger Way - near Doncaster Racecourse stands. Turn off Leger Way opposite the First bus depot on a single track road running parallel with the Racecourse to reach a car park at the entrance to the wood. This Reserve, administered by Doncaster Metropolitan Borough Council, was designated a Site of Special Scientific Interest in 1984 because of rare species of insects. It is an area of mixed woodland, many of the trees dating from the early 19th Century. There is a small area of fen on the eastern edge of the area, and a very small amount of heath land. This local Nature Reserve has a rich variety of wildlife, and has a series of marked pathways, with one, the Covils trail, providing a hard surface suitable for wheelchair access.
