About us

The Eastbourne and District Local Group was reformed in 1994, and currently has about 300 members.

The group's aims are to introduce new members to the RSPB, to support and to raise money for the RSPB's campaigns and Nature Reserves, and to be involved with other community groups such as the friends of local parks (e.g. Hampden Park).

We hold monthly indoor meetings on the 1st Wednesday of the month (except for July and August, when there are outdoor events only), at St. Wilfrid's Church Hall, Eastbourne Road, Pevensey Bay. The indoor meetings feature a talk with slide show. They are held twice during the day, at 2.15pm until 4.30pm approx. and repeated during the evening at 7.30pm until 9.45pm. The hall has its own car park and local on-street parking is also available. The afternoon meetings are served by bus but unfortunately there is no bus service back to town after the evening meeting.

We have monthly day-trips by 16 seater mini-coach to field events all year round, and mid-week walks in our local area on the second Wednesday of the month. We also have some extra walks on Saturdays. We have one annual coach trip in addition. Please see the events link for details.

Non-members are welcome to attend our events.

Meeting times and costs

Afternoon Meetings start at 2.15pm, and are repeated in the evening starting at 7.30pm. Admission costs £2.50 (£2 for paid up members). Tea/ coffee + biscuits for 50p at half time. The meetings also feature sales goods, a second hand book sale, material
