Group outing

Location: We shall look for wood, park and farmland birds at two new sites for the group. Gore Glen Woodland Park is a relatively young woodland area with a small river running through it. The river valley is quite steep in places, but the tracks are generally well defined. Arniston is a historically important estate, and the grounds consist of typical open parkland and wooded areas with very mature trees and shrubs. There is also some agricultural land near the start of the walk. We are very grateful to the Dundas family for permission to visit the grounds and there will be a small contribution.
From the City Bypass travelling east, exit at the Gilmerton Road Roundabout, just past Dobbies Garden Centre. Here join the A7 (Galashiels) and follow this through the next four roundabouts, passng the Scottish Mining Musuem on your right. The Gore Glen Woodland Park is signed to the right approx 1 mile after the traffic lights at the Shell filling station.
