Local RSPB Coach outing

Our Spring coach outing is to the historic island jutting out into the North Sea off the Northumberland coast, and linked to the mainland by a tidal causeway. Holy Island and the surrounding Lindisfarne National Nature Reserve is a popular destination for birders, and is a place of wide horizons and interesting natural history and geology. Much of the Reserve comprises of a rich inter-tidal zone as well as salt marsh, shingle, dunes, mainly unimproved farmland, and the hedges and gardens around the village. The range of habitat will give us the opportunity to see a wide variety of species, and, additionally, Holy Island provides a landfall for many Spring migrating birds. Due to the island's position the weather can be unpredictable, although it is the driest district of Northumberland, so, hopefully we will be lucky. However do come prepared for British weather, and stout footwear for rough paths is recommended. Remember to bring your binoculars and/or scope, and a packed lunch. There are tearooms in the village, and toilet facilities in the coach park.
Departure is at 8.30am from West Register House, Charlotte Square.
We aim to be back at Charlotte Square for 6pm
