Local birdwatching outing
In the morning we shall walk along the estuary to Kilspindie looking for wading birds and ducks,also hoping to find small birds in the bushes. In the afternoon we shall go to Gullane Pount to look out to sea and also look for winter thrushes in the bushes there.
Meet at the wooden bridge car park just beyond Aberalsy village.

Local birdwatching outing
Bavelaw is a local nature reserve in the foothills of the Pentlands. The reserve is a marsh with a hide at the western end of Threipmuir reservoir. In winter there is usually a roost of Pink-footed Geese and a small flock of Whooper Swans. Duck numbers increase, and there are Pochard, Goldeneye, Goosander with Smew occasionally recorded. There has also been a Hen Harrier roost here or on the adjacent Red Moss. We should also see woodland birds on the feeders near the hide.
To get there turn off the A70 Lanark Road at Balerno onto Bridge Road. Turn left after the High School onto Bavelaw Green. Continue south for about 2 miles to the Threipmuir (Red Moss) car park.
