Location: Meet at Beggars Bush car park at 08.00. Map reference: TQ 161 079. Walking across the road to Steep Down and then on to Lancing Ring Nature Reserve

All day Field Outing to Steep Down and Lancing Ring Nature Reserve on the South Downs between Sompting and Steynning. This part of the South Downs is rich in nationally-declining farmland birds such as Yellowhammers and Sky Larks with a few Grey Partridges and especially Corn Buntings. Lancing Ring is a good place for observing diurnal migration on autumn mornings.

The Chidham pininsular is a far leass-watched part of Chichester Harbour than Thorney Island of East Head but offers excellent views of many of the harbour's waders and wildfowl. The quiet lanes, farmland ,and estuary-side walks have a rural timelessness that makes for a wonderful tranquil escape.
