Alison Graham, RSPB Conservation Officer, was unwell and could not give her scheduled talk at the January Meeting - though she is going to be booked for the autumn! On a windswept winter's evening the audience at the Galloway RSPB Local Group meeting was spirited away to sun-kissed South America courtesy of an entertaining and well illustrated presentation by Jeremy Brock. The November meeting of the local RSPB group was treated to a wide-ranging, erudite, highly engaging and beautifully illustrated talk by Calum Murray. Calum is the RSPB Liaison Officer for the popular Red Kite Trail in this area. During the meeting the draw was made for the Wildlife Art Raffle:1st Prize: an original painting by John Threlfall was won by Paula Reanie from Bury, Lancs;2nd Prize: a Liza Hooper print was won by Frank Burrows from Southampton;3rd Prize: John Busby's book "Drawing Birds" was won by D Ronald of Aberdeen.Congratulations to all the prizewinners! More...

A DAY OUT WITH BOBBY SMITH

On a cloudy morning at the beginning of June seven local group members met in Market Hill car park, Castle Douglas. We thought that we were going to see Bobby Smith's sand martin bank at the Applegarthtown Wildlife Sanctuary near Lockerbie. In fact Bobby had very kindly planned a whole day out for us with visits to several locations of wildlife interest including Applegarthtown. More...
