GALLOWAY LOCAL GROUP was formed in 1985. We represent the RSPB in Dumfries and Galloway and, although we meet in Castle Douglas, anyone throughout the region can join us. If you wish to meet like-minded people and help make a difference for birds and wildlife, please feel free to come to any of our indoor meetings or other events. The yearly subscription is £3 per adult.
There is parking outside the church and disabled access. We usually meet on the third Tuesday of the month from September to April inclusive, but please check our programme as there are variations from time to time. We have an interval when refreshments are available and there is a chance to meet and talk to other members.
We aim to offer:
· A friendly welcome to those who are new to the RSPB or new to bird watching.
· Illustrated monthly wildlife talks through the autumn, winter and spring given by knowledgeable speakers.
· Occasional field trips and longer outings to reserves and other quality sites. Experienced leaders are on hand to help both new and more advanced birders.
· A twice-yearly newsletter to all group members.
· Numerous opportunities to volunteer help at our occasional fund raising activities, with bird surveys and with other RSPB tasks and activities.
We are proud of our record as an active group. We have a healthy track record of fund raising for RSPB and have undertaken a wide variety of activities over the years. From time to time we organise art exhibitions and garden openings for the RSPB's important conservation work.
We can offer talks to local organisations on: 'Gardening for Wildlife'. To book a talk please contact Pam Pumphrey on 01556 630246. No group is too small, but we do normally ask for a donation. We try to answer questions about our Group or local bird life, but we are a conservation charity and cannot offer welfare or veterinary advice.
