Western Palearctic birder - a guide to difficult species

Our speaker this month is Ken Shaw and he will present a talk entitled Western Palearctic birder - a guide to difficult species. Ken has now retired from the RSPB but still has a passion for birds. He is recognised as one of the foremost bird watchers in the UK so we are proud that he has agreed to visit the Group. He has asked that we make it clear that his talk will hopefully have something for everyone and is NOT lots of images of rare little brown jobs!

Time: 7.30pm (doors open 7pm)

Birding Down Under in Australia

Our speaker this month is Angus Hogg, the local bird recorder for Ayrshire. Angus is well known in Scottish birding circles and this promises to be an entertaining and informative talk as he swaps Ayrshire for Australia and takes us on a trip 'Birding Down Under'.

Climate Change: its Impact on Wildlife

Our speaker this month is Lloyd Austin, Head of Conservation Policy at RSPB Scotland HQ in Edinburgh. This will be Lloyd's first visit to the Group so we hope for a large turn-out as he explains how climate change may impact on wildlife and in particular species that we take for granted as being synonymous with the Scottish Highlands.

Albatrosses and the Marine Environment

Every year 100,000 albatrosses are killed by longline fishing. Entire species of albatross are threatened with exticntion as a direct result. Euan Dunn, the RSPB's Head of Marine Policy, travels north, from the Lodge, to explain the problems facing the world's albatrosses and marine environment and what we can do to help.
