Sponsored Birdwatch Great Success

Adult male siskin on feeder

Sunday, 27 January 2008

On Sunday 27 January 2008, five teams of intrepid birdwatchers ventured out into the Clyde area to see birds, raise funds and have fun.

The rules were simple: visit as many or as few places as you want, provided they were in the Clyde area, record the number of birds seen and then arrive at the Pond Hotel by 6pm for a well deserved celebratory (or not) drink. Each team developed their own tactics although most teams visited the favoured hotspots of Hogganfield Park Local Nature Reserve, Millichen, Ardmore Point and Baron's Haugh RSPB Reserve. One team started in a local garden with Siskin and timed their visit to Hogganfield so as to make use of the views to be had of wildfowl via car lights!

In the end 18 people retired to the Pond Hotel and it soon became clear that 2 of the teams had tied, for the most species seen, with 64 species. I can exclusively reveal, however, that one of the teams hadn't written down Eider in their notebook so in reality they actually scored 65! The total number of birds seen by the teams came to 83, not bad for a wintery day.

In total £302 was raised. A big thank you to all who participated in what was an excellent event.
