Coach Trip to RSPB Elmley Marshes

Coach Trip to RSPB Elmley Marshes

Sunday, 16 November 2008

As expected, our joint coach trip with the RSPB Stevenage Local Group provided great opportunities for raptor watching, with regular marsh harriers seen throughout the day, a peregrine hunting for tasty teal and wigeon, merlin, lots of kestrels and, in the afternoon, at least two short-eared owls. Some of the group also saw barn owl and little owl close to the visitor centre. As the tide rose, more and more waders were forced onto the reserve with 14 species seen. A cettis warbler was heard on the reserve. The weather stayed dry for most of the time and the weather was (thankfully!) pleasantly mild. To see a list of the birds seen on this trip, visit the web site: www.roystonwildlife.com and go to the RSPB Local Group page: the list will be available until mid-december 2008.
