Coach Trip to Lynford Arboretum and Welney WWT

Sunday, 18 January 2009
Glorious winter sunshine highlighted our 2-centre trip to Lynford Arboretum and Welney WWT. Those who made their way straight down to the Paddocks at Lynford enjoyed views of hawfinch, whilst those of us who were not quite so quick were able to enjoy close views of siskins and goldfinches in a tree by the river, with marsh tits even closer and a treecreeper in the background: the highlight of the day for many of us! The afternoon was spent at Welney, where we enjoyed the luxury of being able to view bean geese and watch the swans being fed from the centrally-heated hide. Waders included ruff, snipe, dunlin and black-tailed godwit and a barn owl made an appearance just before we left to cap a great day!
