Adult and children with book and binoculars birdwatching

End of Season Report

At a recent indoor meeting some of our valuable and committed volunteers were recognised by the RSPB by long service awards. Indeed this was only possible in two cases by the recent introduction of a thirty year award badge!

The recipients' were
Vera Kirk 20 years
Anne Freeman 25 years
Keith Freeman 25 years
Geoff Roberts 25 years
Julia Farnworth 30 years
Peter Farnworth 30 years

That's 155 years volunteering for the RSPB. Congratulations to them all!

The camera nest box scheme goes from strength to strength thanks to the constant efforts of Geoff Roberts, Keith Freeman and Peter Hunt. They install and maintain 16 boxes at schools, retirement homes and establishments around the Loughborough area. Most of our users are fascinated by the developing breeding story, mostly with happy endings, but not always! It is a great educational tool and a perfect recruiting method for the younger participants.

It would seem that our leader's 'break for freedom' by resigning at the last AGM has come to nought! With no one else prepared to takeover and with the committee prepared to take on more duties, Bob will continue in a reduced capacity until a new leader steps forward. We are developing a list of volunteers who may be able to deputise when circumstances mean that member of the committee is unavailable for a particular event and we would be extremely grateful if there is anyone who could step into the 'breach' on such an occasion. Pam is the controller of that list and it already contains the names of people who have volunteered to provide occasional help, it would make life so much easier if there were more. If you want to help but are concerned that it may be more than you want to give, there is no need to be. Talk to us and give as much or as little time as you wish, an hour can make a great difference to your committee and you may enjoy it!
