Places to see birds

Blow's Downs

The escarpment of Blow's Downs lie between the M1 to the east and Dustable to the west. Limited car parking is available at each end of the site, both a short drive from the A505. There is also access on foot from the roads parralleling the foot of the escarpment (OS TL 033215).

Made up of a variety of habitat and with easy access, Blow's Downs are a magnet for birders during Spring and Autumn migration.

During spring Black & Common redstart, Northern wheatear and Whinchat can be easily found but finding the renowned Ring ouzel needs more patience. In recent years Ring ouzel have been regular visitors to Tesco's slope at the eastern end of the downs.

Outside migration periods more common birds are seen including Bullfinch, Sparrowhawk, Tits and Yellowhammer.

If you are planning a visit to the Downs you are advised to visit the excellent website at: http://www.picus.co.uk/managed/blowsdowns/index.htm for more detailed and concise information.
