MANSFIELD GROUP'S FIELD TRIP TO MINSMERE - 13/5/07

Thursday, 24 May 2007
Another very good day's bird watching at Minsmere. Most of the target birds were seen, like Nightingale, Cetti's Warbler, Dartford Warbler, Woodlark, Turtle Dove, Cuckoo, Avocet, Bittern and Mediterranean Gull. Many more species were observed at this first class reserve. The trip was enjoyed by the 39 who made the journey, including 11 members of the Pleasley Pit Nature Study Group who were made very welcome. One member was Ken Lomas, a former leader of the Mansfield RSPB Group and now at the helm at Pleasley. I would like to mention one other name, that of Loz Brooks who has spearheaded that group since its formation 5 years ago. It is my belief that had it not been for Loz and some like minded people, the former Pleasley Colliery Pit site would have been left as a landfill site and lost to nature years ago.
