RSPB MANSFIELD GROUP'S FIELD TRIP TO SPURN POINT ON 7TH OCTOBER 2007

Wheatear in spring

Thursday, 25 October 2007

It was short sleeve weather at Spurn Point and that, together with the rare birds that were around, attracted a huge gallery of bird watchers, including 41 of us.

A list of 60-plus bird species was seen on the day. Too numerous to mention every one, I will list the most interesting:

Great White Egret, 12 waders present, 1 Yellow Browed Warbler, 1 Barred Warbler and the one that Yours Truly did not see - Blyth's Reed Warbler! We saw a Siberian Stonechat and ordinary Stonechats by the boat load, along with Whinchat, Wheatear, Ring Ouzel, Redwing and Fieldfare.

With the sea looking like a mill pond, and seals and porpoises playing in the Estuary, we left Spurn Point feeling very satisfied after a wonderful day.
