MANSFIELD GROUP'S FIELD TRIP TO CLEY-NEXT-THE-SEA (Norfolk) on 11th November 2007

little egret, wading, water

Monday, 10 December 2007

It was doubtful whether this outing would take place, due to moderate flooding in the Cley area, but a decision was eventually made that we should take a chance and go anyway. Our fears were justified as the Reserve was a washout, but we made the best of it and all things considered, the bird sightings were quite good.

These are some of the birds we saw: Red Throated Diver, Gannet, Cormorant, Shag, Little Egret, Grey Lag Goose, Brent Goose, Eider Duck, Common Scoter, Velvet Scoter, Marsh Harrier, Grey Phalarope, Pomarine Skua, Razorbill and Little Auk - scores of these birds were passing through! We also saw Stonechat, Cetti's Warbler, Snow Bunting and Lapland Bunting.

We did pretty well, bearing in mind the awful conditions and the strong winds that prevailed.
