MANSFIELD GROUP'S TRIP TO RUTLAND WATER on 8th February 2009

Tuesday, 24 February 2009

Another amazing trip to a very wintery Rutland Water. 69 species were ticked on our lists. Three mammals were spotted on site; our smallest deer, the Muntjac; a fox searching for a meal and a hare - not surprising, it's nearly March! Birds were much as seen on the last two trips but additions included Ruddy Duck, Goldeneye, Smew (12, a most unusual number to see), Merlin, Skylark, Pied Wagtail, Song and Mistle Thrushes, Goldcrest, Siskin, Godwit (species unconfirmed) and a Woodcock in the hands of the ringer who was retrieving it from the net.
