Nightingale singing

Thursday, 21 May 2009

Another very good field meeting. The weather was perfect and it did not take us long to tick off the Big Three at Paxton - Nightingale, Cuckoo and Turtle Dove. We do not see that trio around us these days, so it makes it all worthwhile going to reserves to see the birds that were common to us years ago.

The complete list of birds seen is shown below:

Great Crested Grebe, Cormorant, Grey Heron, Canada Goose, Gadwall, Mallard, Tufted Duck, Sparrowhawk, Buzzard, Kestrel, Hobby, Red Legged Partridge, Grey Partridge, Pheasant, Moorhen, Coot, Oyster Catcher, Lapwing, Redshank, Black Headed Gull, Lesser Black Backed Gull, Common Tern, Wood Pigeon, Collared Dove, Turtle Dove, Cuckoo, Kingfisher, Green Woodpecker, Great Spotted Woodpecker, Swallow, Pied Wagtail, Wren, Dunnock, Robin, Nightingale, Blackbird, Song Thrush, Mistle Thrush, Sedge Warbler, Lesser Whitethroat, Whitethroat, Garden Warbler, Blackcap, Chiffchaff, Willow Warbler, Blue Tit, Great Tit, Magpie, Jackdaw, Rook, Carrion Crow, Starling, Chaffinch, Greenfinch, Goldfinch, Bullfinch, Yellowhammer and Reed Bunting.
