Walks and Talks Programme

There is a lot of wildlife on our doorsteps and the more we know about it the more we can enjoy it. Last year the Newcastle Local Group organised a series of local birdwatching walks in areas such as Jesmond Dene and Holywell Dene, to raise people's awareness of wildlife in their local area. These proved popular. To build upon their success we have, this year, complemented some of the local walks with a birdwatching class. The class is titled "Introduction to Bird Life" and the format will be a Talk, with digital presentation presented by Brian Moorhead, and a Walk. It will be aimed at people who would like to identify birds in their gardens, local parks, countryside or water areas and those new to birdwatching. Keeping the local group active and interesting is what the committee aspires to. We want it to be exciting to be part of and attractive to potential new members. Class dates are in the 2010 / 2011 programme and are open to all - not just members.
These classes are just one part of a visionary educational programme that the committee has plans for. We anticipate providing Talks & Walks to schools, scout groups, community groups and others. We would particularly like to reach areas where young people would not otherwise get an opportunity to enjoy wildlife. Our aim is to inspire people in the North East, young and old, to look after the natural world, enjoy it and support its conservation. We look forward with great enthusiasm to achieving this.
