Group Visit to Moore

25 members turned up for this event. The weather was beautiful and sunny. We made our way to the feeding station where Blue and Great Tits were feeing along with Reed Buntings and Chaffinches. From here we followed the old canal bed and went to see if the roosting Tawny Owl was present. When we arrived he was sat out enjoying the sunshine. It was then time for lunch. As we ate our food in the hide a Kingfisher landed right in front of us and gave stunning views. No sooner had this flown off when a female Sparrowhawk landed in the trees opposite us. Again it showed well.
After lunch we made our way slowly to the eastern reedbed. On the pools were good numbers of Tufted Duck and Little Grebes, which were very vocal. On reaching the hide we sat and waited. We hadn't been there ten minutes when a movement in the reeds was observed. As we held our breath and hoped, a Bittern came out and sat in full view for us. It stayed for several minutes and everyone couldn't believe the views we were obtaining. It then flew into the reeds and was lost from sight. Pushing our luck we made our way to another site. Again we were rewarded as we found a Little Owl enjoying the sunshine.
It had been a memorable day's birdwatching and 59 species were seen in total.

Plant Sale and Coffee Morning

Due to building work now starting earlier than we thought, this event has had to be cancelled. Hopefully we are told the building should be ready for 2007 and so we may have the chance to hold the event then.
