Places to see birds

Woolston Eyes

The reserve is open all year but access is by permit only. This can be obtained from Brian Ankers, 9 Lynton Gardens, Appleton, Warrington. WA4 5ED.
The reserve consists of a variety of landscapes ranging from sludge beds, reedbeds to areas of open water. There are footpaths around some of the beds and there are also several public hides which are open at all times. There are no facilities on the reserve.
Woolston is a good place to visit throughout the year. Spring is a time for the warblers and from early April Black-necked Grebes may be found. Winter time finds a good variety of wildfowl. There is an article about the reserve in Birdwatching magazine April 2002. The reserve also has its own website: www.woolstoneyes.co.uk
