Long Weekend in North Norfolk

Turtle dove

Thursday, 15 May 2008

Twenty eight members of the Group visited the north Norfolk coast for the first of our long-weekend field visits. The weather was very kind to us staying dry and warm for most of the time.
Places visited included Titchwell RSPB Reserve, Choseley Barn, Cley, Holkham Woods, Weeting and Hockwold RSPB Reserve.
The main highlights of the trip included 10 plus Hobbies, Montagu's Harrier, Turtle Dove, Dartford Warbler, three Temminck's Stint, Woodlark and a female Golden Pheasant with a brood of 12 youngsters.
In a pea field a mile from the coast we found seven Dotterel which saved our legs from a hard climb as this bird is usually found on the top of high hills or mountains in Scotland and Scandinavia.
In total the Group saw 120 birds, some of which were new for certain members. Everyone agreed it was a very memorable and enjoyable outing.
Our next long weekend away is to S. W. Scotland in October
