Heading through the reserve down Lapwing Lane a family of Nuthatch were present along with a family of Long-tailed Tit and several Great Spotted Woodpecker. The group then spent some time in the hide at Birch Wood Pool, amongst the variety of water birds were several Black-necked Grebe, one of the Uk's rarest breeding birds which showed well in front of the hide. Also present were Little and Great Crested grebe, Shelduck, Pochard and Oystercatcher, whilst Swift and Sand Martin fed over the pool.
The group then moved to the Forestry Commission site at Upper Moss Side Farm, noting a number of species along the way, highlights being Buzzard, Sedge and Reed Warbler and Yellowhammer. At Upper Moss Side Farm several Skylark, Whitethroat and Reed Bunting were singing in the fields and along the hedgerows, however the highlight was a pair of young Barn Owl.
