The September field trip of the North Cheshire RSPB on Sunday 20th began at the RSPB reserve at Inner Marsh Farm on the Wirral.
During the walk to the hide produced a good number of birds including Buzzard and Raven whilst a Peregrine disturbed a large flock of waterfowl and waders from the reserve pools.
Good numbers of ducks were noted on the reserve pools including Wigeon, Teal, Shoveler and Pintail whilst waders present included Golden Plover, Ruff, Snipe, Black-tailed Godwit, Spotted Redshank and Green Sandpiper. Also noted were Water Rail which showed well in front of the hide and a brief view of a Kingfisher.
Returning from the hide Blackcap, Chiffchaff and Willow Warbler were noted.
The afternoon was spent at nearby Burton Marsh, good numbers of birds of prey were seen over the marsh including Sparrowhawk, Buzzard, Kestrel, Merlin and Peregrine. A few Little Egret fed on the marsh along with Greenshank and Green Sandpiper. Several Wheatear, Whinchat and Stonechat were noted at various places on the marsh.
