Places to see birds

Willen Lake North

Willen Lake was created in 1973, the south lake for recreation and the north lake reserved for birds and other wildlife. You don't have to be an expert on birds to enjoy the area - there are identification panels on the lake edge and one in the bird hide located close to H5 Portway.

The inaccessibility of the island in the north lake makes it an ideal sanctuary for nesting birds, including ducks, geese and other water birds not usually seen in towns such as herons and common terns.

Breeding birds in summer, ducks and gulls in winter, waders and other terns on passage, ensure that there is always something to watch at Willen! More than 200 species have been recorded here.

Park at the Peace Pagoda car park (free) located on V10 Brickhill Street between H4 Dansteed Way and H5 Portway.
