Valentines Park talk

Valentines Park talk

Simon Litt, the manager of Valentines Park, enthused his audience with some fascinating facts about the Park - both past and present. A 'local boy', his obvious interest and care for the area was very refreshing.

He is working hard to make space for nature e.g. the old approach of cutting all the grass to a uniform short length has been discarded and now specific areas are left uncut to encourage wild flowers and wildlife, especially at the north end of the Park.

The Park is very accessible with car parks at different locations, and there is a new cafe area. A surprising variety of birds find habitat to their liking - Valentino, the Mediterranean Gull, has been returning on a regular basis for years.

I felt almost embarrassed that I had not made time to visit this large area of open space that is so close to home - something I plan to correct in the near future!
