About us
Welcome to the RSPB North Staffs Local Group website. We are a well-established group with approaching 200 members.
The main activities of our group are birdwatching field visits and indoor talks on topics of wildlife interest. Every month from September to May we have an indoor meeting with illustrated talks given by invited speakers. These usually attract 80-100 people. They are held in the excellent facilities of the North Staffordshire Conference Centre/Medical Institute on Hartshill Road, a modern and comfortable disabled-friendly venue with a large free car park. (http://www.nsconferences.co.uk/introduction.cfm). During the season we also organise nine full-day birdwatching trips by luxury coach to reserves outside the local area. These trips take place on Sundays and have a number of pick-up points. There is a stop on both outward and homeward journeys. These coach trips are suitable whether you are an experienced birder or a novice. Our friendly group will help you get the most out of these outings.
In addition, each season, experienced local birders lead six leisurely morning walks of up to two and a half hours on reserves and in parks in the area around Stoke-on-Trent.
If you do not have binoculars we have three pairs to lend free of charge for the day on a first come basis to anyone who would like to take part in any of our outside activities.
We have been fortunate to receive a small grant from the Staffordshire Moorlands Community Chest. This grant allows us to offer a limited number of people in further full-time education the opportunity to attend all our monthly indoor meetings free for the coming 2009/10 season and to accompany us on a couple of our coach outings.
