About us
Welcome to the RSPB North Staffs Local Group website. We are a well-established group with just over 200 members.
The main activities of our group are birdwatching field visits and indoor talks on topics of wildlife interest. Every month from September to May we have an indoor meeting with illustrated talks given by invited speakers. These usually attract 80-100 people. They are held in the excellent facilities of the North Staffordshire Conference Centre/Medical Institute on Hartshill Road, a modern and comfortable disabled-friendly venue with a large free car park. (http://www.nsconferences.co.uk/introduction.cfm). During the season we also organise nine full-day birdwatching trips by luxury coach to reserves outside the local area. These trips take place on Sundays and have a number of pick-up points and a comfort stop on both outward and homeward journeys. The coach trips are suitable whether you are an experienced birder or a novice and our friendly group will help you get the most out of the outings.
In addition, each season, experienced local birders lead six leisurely morning walks of up to two and a half hours on reserves and in parks in the area around Stoke-on-Trent. Car-sharing birdwatching trips are used to visit reserves and areas of interest 50-60 miles from Stoke-on-Trent. The aim of these trips is to go to areas closer to home which one might not otherwise visit.
If you do not have binoculars we have three pairs to lend free of charge for the day on a first come first served basis to anyone who would like to take part in any of our outside activities.
