Places to see birds
Westport Lake
Westport Lake is the largest body of water in the city. The site also has a smaller lake and a woodland conservation area. It is well known for its water birds and it is an important overwintering site for many water birds. Rarer birds often stop off at the lake during migration. The conservation area at the back of the site is home to a variety of nesting birds and also supports many dragonflies.
The site was designated as a Local Nature Reserve in July 2004. The car park and main lake path at Westport Lake have recently been resurfaced to allow access for the disabled.
