Hem Heath WoodThis patch of ancient woodland in Trentham , which was mostly planted about 120 years ago, is managed by the Staffordshire Wildlife Trust. 34 different species of tree and shrub have been identified including oak, beech, ash and sycamore. The wide variety of species provides a habitat for many birds, insects and mammals: tits pass through during the winter and nuthatches, treecreepers and greater and lesser-spotted woodpeckers nest in the dead and dying trees.
