Doxey Marshes

Doxey Marshes is Staffordshire Wildlife Trust's largest nature reserve comprising 300 acres of grazing marsh, swamp, pools and running water situated in the flood plain of the River Sow to the north-western of Stafford town. The mixed habitats of reedbeds, grassland, hedgerows, scrub, flashes, ditches, rivers and scattered trees supports significant populations of breeding, wintering and passage birds. There is one bird hide and three viewing platforms overlooking ponds and scrapes where a variety of wading birds and wildfowl can be seen. Breeding wading birds include Little Ringed Plovers, Redshank and Lapwing. Visiting waders include Oystercatcher, Ringed Plover, Dunlin, Curlew Sandpiper, Common Sandpiper and a real rarity, Pectoral Sandpiper.
The main car park is situated at the end of Wootton Drive, off the Eccleshall Road. There are no toilet or hand washing facilities. Some paths are suitable for wheelchair access.
