Birwatching Trip to YWT Potteric Carr

Sunday, 20 January 2008
Thirty of the Group visited the Yorkshire Wildlife Trust Nature Reserve at Potteric Carr near Doncaster on Sunday 20th January 2008. It was raining as we left the Michelin but forecasts promised better weather and so it proved. It had cleared by the time we arrived and throughout the afternoon the sun came out giving us a very pleasant mild day and excellent views of some splendid birds. The highlights were the bitterns (seen and photographed by several members) and the water rails coming out of the reeds for the nuts at the feeding station. Flocks of siskins were very evident in the alders but the redpolls which were said to be with them were not seen by anyone in our group. A reserve which deserves a further visit.
