Nightjars in Hanchurch Woods

Nightjar on ground among heather

Monday, 26 May 2008

A few members of the group were led by Alan Hancock on a walk to see nightjars in Hanchurch Woods. It was a pleasant evening. At first the group could only hear the typical churring song of the bird but later, and on more than one occasion, they had exceptional and close views of this most elusive bird in flight and also managed to see the bird perched on the branch of a tree. We are fortunate to have these birds less than 30 minutes from the city centre. Our thanks to Alan for leading the walk.
