Birdwatching Trip to Far Ings, Humberside.

Sunday, 22 February 2009
Given the weather of the previous two weeks the 43 members of the Group who went to Far Ings were more than satisfied to arrive in dry conditions. A bit windy in exposed areas and cloudy with sunny intervals would be an appropriate description. Fortunately it stayed dry. A nice group of species including reed bunting on the feeders by the lovely new visitor's centre gave us a good start. Walking round it all seemed a bit quiet; there was little happening on the Humber, no waders except the odd redshank and no bearded tits. Then we started to see bittern and if you were in the right place at the right time you were treated to a slow fly past by a bittern well seen from the visitor centre's observation room. 72 species were seen.
