Birdwatching Trip to Whisby Nature Park, Lincoln.

Sunday, 26 April 2009
It is some years since we went to Whisby Nature Park and we had chosen to go there to hear and hopefully see nightingales. So we were happy that not only were we blessed with beautiful weather but one of the first birds seen was a nightingale, a mere 100 metres from the splendid visitors centre. There were several nightingales in the park and with patience it was possible to get the tick. The warblers had also arrived and all common warblers were seen; blackcap, whitethroat, willow warbler, chiffchaff and lesser whitethroat. Sitting comfortably in the sun on the observation deck by the visitors centre we could watch the antics of the black-headed gulls, great crested grebes (on the nest) and a solitary little ringed plover while we had our lunch or afternoon tea. The 38 members saw 75 species and enjoyed the glorious weather and the sights and sounds of this beautiful reserve.
