Birdwatching Trip to RSPB Titchwell Marsh

Sunday, 24 May 2009
Thirty-five members of the Group visited RSPB Titchwell Marsh in Norfolk on Sunday 24th May. The weather was glorious and the visit got off to a good start when both spotted flycatcher and hobby were identified before we left the coach. This early excitement was only a prelude to greater enthusiasm when a spoonbill gave good sightings and we saw what we eventually agreed was a young Montagu's harrier. Other pleasures included the marsh harriers, very busy bearded tits, little tern, little gulls and the few avocet chicks which were running around on their little blue legs. A lucky few even saw a bittern whilst some only heard its boom. As usual Titchwell charmed us with it's beauty. Eighty-nine species were seen.
