Thirteen intrepid members of the Group visited and enjoyed a fairly strenuous walk led by Geoff Sales in Consall Nature Reserve.
Species seen included blackbird, chaffinch, carrion crow, dunnock, goldfinch, jackdaw, jay, mallard, nuthatch, pheasant, robin, starling, blue tit, great tit, coal tit, long-tailed tit and woodpigeon, buzzard, greenfinch, fieldfare, lesser black-backed gull, grey heron, kestrel, skylark, redwing, house sparrow and treecreeper. Among the species heard but not seen were heard bullfinch and wren.
At one point in the walk we were high above the valley looking south and west. The various shades of green and brown in the foliage were beautiful. We are so fortunate to have such a reserve so close to the city.
