Birwatching Trip to Ynys Hir 2009

Sunday, 25 October 2009
Forty-one members of the Group visited RSPB Ynys Hir in West Wales on Sunday 25th October 2009. The weather forecast was that the rain would clear by the time we reached the reserve and so it proved. The torrents we experienced on the journey disappeared and we were blessed with a dry if cloudy and windy visit to this beautiful reserve. It was good to see that the greenfinches on the reserve now look much healthier than they did on our previous visit. We saw a good range of species the stars of which were the lesser spotted woodpecker seen by a fortunate (skilful?) few and the stunning views of a hunting red kite. We saw 73 species including on the way home a good view in the coach headlights of a barn owl. A surprising and pleasant end to a lovely day's birding.
