Birdwatching Trip to Martin Mere 2009

Sunday, 22 November 2009
Thirty-three members of the Group visited the WWT Martin Mere Nature Reserve in Lancashire on Sunday 22nd November. Forecasts promised a rather wet day and so it proved but not so wet that we were not able to enjoy the day. The Group were fortunate in that many of us saw some of the raptors in the area. Many saw the marsh harrier, kestrel, peregrine and buzzard. Only the fortunate few saw the lesser Canada goose. At this time of year the expected whooper swans were there in abundance as were pink-footed geese and pintail which are not often seen in such numbers. The sight of bramblings on one of the feeders was especially delightful. At Martin Mere one also has the opportunity to see and appreciate ducks usually seen at some distance and this was enjoyed by many of the Group
