Nineteen members and visitors gathered at 10am on the car park adjacent to Ford Green Hall. The weather was cold but dry. We started from Ford Green Nature Reserve. Went round the pool, which was now free of ice after the recent cold spell, then continued on a footpath along the route of the former Biddulph Valley railway line, now landscaped, as far as Holden Lane Pools just beyond the main A53 Leek Road. We returned the same way and arrived back at the car park at 12.15pm.
Twenty-six species were seen including pochard, tufted duck, goosander, meadow pipit, treecreeper, long-tailed tit and pied wagtail. We searched among the gulls looking for a common gull but none were found. We did see goldfinches feeding on the alder trees. A very pleasant walk.
