Adult black-tailed godwit in summer plummage, at the RSPB Snettisham nature reserve, Norfolk

What are doing this Summer

In July and August the activities of the local RSPB Group diminish and, whilst you may still see our publicity stall at various fetes around Swindon, our meetings do not start again until Tuesday 5 September.

This doesn't stop you birdwatching in the meantime.

Whilst we think that we are basking in a British summer our birds are entering their autumn period. Many birds are beginning their return migration from the far north and are readily visible, some still in their breeding plumage.

A good location for birdwatching at this time of the year has to be the Cotswold Water Park. This year waders have started to move through but the season has been especially good for dragonflies, including the very rare Lesser Emperor dragonfly.

To find out more about the Cotswold Water Park visit our 'Places to see Birds' page or use the link below to take you to the Cotswold Water Park's sightings weblog where you can find out what has been seen and also download maps.
