VFA Report 2007
Since 2001 two or three group members have carried out spring surveys for the RSPB's annual Volunteer and Farmer Alliance project. The regional organiser, Deborah Deveney, has sent up some figures that may be of interest.
Seventy three farms (nine in Wiltshire) were surveyed. Blackbird, chaffinch, robin and swallow were recorded on every farm and blue tit, great tit and wren on 97%. Greenfinch and wood pigeon were seen on 95%.
The results are very useful, of course, because the landholders will be offered conservation advice to maintain or improve the numbers and species on their farms.
