Trip reports

Portland and Weymouth

Sunday, 18 February 2007

9 members met at Portland Bill on a wet morning and soon found guillemot, razorbill, shag and fulmar. On the rocks we saw turnstone, rock pipit and three purple sandpipers.
We had lunch at Ferry Bridge watching ringed plover, red-breasted merganser, and Mediterranean gull. The harbour offered close views of great northern diver, velvet scoter and Slavonian grebe.
At Radipole there were ruddy duck, shelduck and gadwall. Our walk found Cetti's warbler, reed bunting, little grebe, snipe and a sparrowhawk.
With the rain getting heavier, we finished the day early with a total of 66 species seen.
