A Visit to Cley Norfolk Wildlife Trust

Saturday, 7 August 2010

The heavy rain showers had cleared by the time the surprisingly small number of group members started using their bins and scopes. It turned out to be dry and warm with a gentle west wind. Ideal for the 20 spoonbills to give us a short aerial display as we strolled the shingle approaching North Hide before settling in the correct place to be viewed from the hide. The advantage of good teamwork led us to identify 54 species. More...

Visit to Skoma, Pembrokeshire (Spring 2008) "A Personal View"

Saturday, 5 April 2008

We visited the delightful small rocky island of Skoma off the Pembrokeshire coast. We immediately noticed the lack of trees although the ground was blanketed in bluebells and red campion. There were so many rabbit holes which were being used by puffin and manx shearwater. We discovered the shearwater would use the holes at night to avoid the predatory black-backed gulls. More...

Visit to Farne Island - Northumberland (Spring 2007) "A Personal View"

Thursday, 5 April 2007

A cluster of islands off the Northumberland coast is a photographers paradise. Arctic terns nest in large quantities and we experienced the males 'diving' towards us in an effort to protect their nests ... I would certainly recommend the wearing of headwear! More...
