Group Visit to Snettisham

Wednesday, 12 November 2008
As we assembled on the reserve car park, we looked up on 2 soaring buzzards before setting off for the estuary. The tide was out and we saw many thousands of birds including oystercatcher, ringed plover, golden plover, grey plover, lapwing, knot, dunlin, snipe, bar-tailed godwit, curlew, redshank, turnstone, gulls and shelduck. 500+ knot and hundreds of golden plover separately swirled spectacularly in the sky shimmying as they turned. Some members went on to Titchwell for the afternoon and were rewarded with red-necked phalarope, little stint, curlew sandpiper, merlin and male hen harrier among the multitude of birds you expect at this reserve. As the weather was also good, we had a really good day's birding.
