Group Visit to Strumpshaw Fen

Group Visit to Strumpshaw Fen

Whilst the June weather was over cast with the odd heavy rain shower, we all enjoyed a guided tour of the wild flower meadows at Strumpshaw Fen. We were shown how to identify some interesting plants, including Orchids, by Strumpshaw Fen's site manager Tim Strudwick. Tim also explained how the RSPB manage the meadows to ensure a diverse flora. With the weather being quite cool there was very little insect activity although Tim did find some peacock butterfly caterpillars.
